The United States has decided to impose a 50% tariff on Chinese solar cells

According to the Voice of America radio website reported on September 13, the US government decided on the 13th to significantly increase the import tariffs on Chinese products, including raising the tariff on electric vehicles by 100% to strengthen the protection of the US domestic strategic industries.


A press release from the Office of the United States Trade Representative said some tariffs will take effect on September 27. In addition to the 100 percent tariff on Chinese electric vehicles, the United States will also impose a 50 percent tariff on Chinese solar cells and a 25 percent tariff on Chinese steel, aluminum, electric vehicle batteries and key minerals.


At the same time, the United States will increase import tariffs on Chinese semiconductors by 50%, and this new tax rate will take effect in January 2025. The semiconductor category has added two new categories of polysilicon and silicon wafers used in solar panels.
